How to optimize post images
1. Choose the right file name: This is mostly regarded as irrelevant by most people and that makes them neglect giving an image a perfect name for the article in question.
Sometimes, I do add my keywords to the image name and this has helped me a lot in ranking high for an image relating to my posts in search engine.
For example, if you are writing an article on how I reduced my bounce rate to 0, your image name can be Reduce Your Website's Bounce Rate.
Note: Do not compact those words and also do not use irrelevant names on your images. Either use spaces or hyphen to separate each word that it will be easy for both human and search engine to understand.
2. Compress images and reduce the size:
This is another most important task to carryout before uploading an image on your website. It helps to reduce the loading speed of your blog by presenting your server a lesser sized image and content to load.
Your page's loading speed is a major determining factor in SEO and also helps in reducing bounce rate on your site.
The size of your image should be so small that it will be able to be picked by social media's. The best size should be 200 x 200px.
You should also consider your site's width while creating your image. Most of website's area width comes with 600 - 700px and should be put in consideration while creating your post images.
Most times, you will download stock images from the website's provided above and the images will have high image sizes, what you should do at that point is to resize those images first before uploading it to your blog.
Note: Uploading images before resizing kills a website's speed more because your server will have to load the larger size image before loading the smaller size image. So, it's not advisable.
You can easily resize your images with these online tools Pic Resize and Pic monkey free and perfectly.
Sometimes after resizing your images, it still has large size. This can be attributed to the quality of the image. The higher the quality, the higher the size. When you notice this, you need to compress the image sizes with an online tool called tiny png. This tool will not destroy the beauty of your image rather, it will just reduce it's quality a little without affecting it's aesthetic and by so doing, it will help improve SEO.
3. Using of ALT text:
Using an alt text is a way if telling the search engine what the image is all about and thereby helps in ranking if that image for that specific keyword. This also tells the search engine that an image is present at a particular spot since it cannot read an image ordinarily.
Choosing ALT text sometimes can be very challenging but the most important thing to bear in mind is the use of your post's keywords as your ALT text. The rule behind this is to use images stating clearly the post title before adding your ALT text to it.
For example, Do not add an alt text to a dull image on your post with the keyword such as chrome extensions for bloggers. As you can see, they have no connection and you can be penalized by search engines for that.
|Adding img alt text|
Adding an ALT text to image is very simple. Just add this text to the image alt="Add your alt text here"
<img src="Exceptional-SEO-Tools-Of-2017.png" alt=" SEO tools of 2017"/>
To add an alt text on wordpress, use media uploader and to add an alt text to blogger, go to the HTML version of your post and locate the specific image you want to edit the alt text. Then navigate to the last part of the image code and add the alt text as explained in the example above.
These are simple things to remember while optimizing an image
- Heights and width of images.
- Remember to remove hyperlinks of images.
- Use image formats of PNG, JPG and GIF.
- Use captions to further describe the image.
- Use image sitemaps.
Since reduction of image size is an essential thing to do when considering SEO, I believe this has been able to help boost the SEO of your website posts.
